He continues to force his way into our lives everyday. It seems more so during this time when people are searching and alone. We need to remember Matthew 4 and I paraphrase part of Verse 10 Thou Shalt Worship The Lord Thy God And Him Only Shalt Thou Serve".

I wanted to share a comment that a friend of mine left on my Facebook after I shared this article:

"The article has some good points. Here are some more points to consider.
Some of the gifts from the Spirit actually refer to people He has gifted to the church. Part of the role of Evangelists in the church are to help equip those who it is ...not their natural tendency. All Christians are called to share the Gospel. Those who are talented in that arena need to equip others which may not be in their comfort zone like evangelism may not be in the comfort zone of others. Now the question is, how are we called to evangelize? What does it look like in a hyper modern/post modern society?"

I enjoyed this closing part of this series because I liked seeing the list of practical applications. I especially agree with #1 and #4. Keep things short and stay up on current events.

Good writing, Sarah!

Thanks for reading evangelism. net, Don.

I think you captured the spirit of the article in your comment that it is “the Holy Spirit’s job to convince them” (the unbeliever). That’s exactly what the idea of quoting John 6:44 was all about—as well as reiterating our complete dependence on God’s sovereignty. The Bible does make it clear that it is absolutely God’s job to convert and ours to contact. Sometimes that contact can be tiring. But how invigorating it is when someone puts their full faith in Christ and His redemptive work—perhaps leaving behind their own striving for salvation once they realize that it is as simple as trusting in Christ alone!

It might be helpful to know that it is impossible to decide to believe. As Jody Dillow says, "Faith just happens." Faith is being convinced that Jesus grants everlasting life to us simply by believing in Him. I use Dick Seymour's method. I hold a Bible upside down and have them read John 6:47 out loud. I then ask, "Do you have everlasting life?" If they say "I hope so" I ask them read it again out loud. I then ask, "Does it say 'hope' so?" They say no. I then ask, 'Do you have everlasting life?" I do it 3 or 4 times. Usually if they are close, the will finally say something like, "OOOOOOHHHHHH" I have it! Either that or the Holy Spirit has not gotten them to the place where they are convinced yet. It is our job to provide the facts of Christ, his virgin birth, sinless life, death and resurrection. It is the Holy Spirit's job to convince them (if they are open to the truth). At the moment they are convinced, you don't have to ask them to "trust" or "pray" or do anything. They were saved at the moment they were convinced! That takes all the pressure off of us so we can relax, make friends and watch God work in his time!

Thanks for what all you guys do!

Seems like missionaries pursue relationships with their "target" with absolute intentionality for said purpose. So no, we shouldn't be critical of that motivation.

But we shouldn't expect is or even prefer it over a relationship birthed with a lack of said intentionality.
