Evangelism Out of Grace, Not Guilt |
|
If there is one word in the Christian vocabulary that needs an extreme makeover it is the word “evangelism.” The attitude behind the word is one reason why only a small percentage of believers ever lead someone to Christ. The situation is compounded by the fact that even when Christians do evangelize, they often do it out of guilt – feeling that they have to, not that they want to. This begs the question: “Do you ever get to the point that you do evangelism out of grace, not out of guilt?”
The answer is found in a biblically sound perspective on evangelism. A careful study of scripture reveals that our God of grace wants us to witness out of grace. He wants us to approach taking Christ to the lost with excitement and anticipation. Evangelism can become an enjoyable experience, not an endurable episode. Join the conversation this week at Evangelism.net and offer your thoughts on the importance of doing evangelism out of grace and not guilt.

I have been browsing and reading articles concerning evangelism from your website, and I am surely blessed. I am running a ministry called Jesus Can Ministries International. We have about 6 active members. I just wonder if you could assist us with more training.i.e. if you can support us with Distance Learning that will equip us to do the great commission more effectively. We started in 2004, and we have number of Crusades and Revivals. Our vision is to take Christ to the nations with simplicity and grace; but it has never been easy since we do not have a good financial stand, but we have seen great wotks of the Lord already. We have seen Him kindle so much fire among the people, and He has been using us to activate Revival in many churches. Hoping to hear from you soon. God bless you.
I think there are basically for kinds of Christians (as it relates to evangelism) First – those who share the gospel out of joy. These are often new believers filled with the joy of receiving God’s mercy. Second – those who share the gospel out of guilt or duty or even a less honorable motive. Third – those that don’t share at all. Last – those who are, at a deep level, becoming like Christ. Jesus is very much alive in them and their greatest purpose and joy is found in worshiping and becoming like the One who saved them. At this point evangelism is not a separate project or activity – it simply flows from who they have become. They’ve been consumed by Jesus.
